Updates from multiple Tennessee Vols coaches leads our June 10, 2020 Volunteers news.

Happy Hump Day. As different sports continue to work out a situation to be able to play (outside of baseball), the NCAA moves forward with its plan to prepare for football season and athletes begin to return to campus, it looks like things could be back to normal at some point. That’s good news for Tennessee Vols fans, who desperately want football to start.

Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with UT head coach Jeremy Pruitt providing updates on the situation on campus with players coming back. It’s not the same as it is everywhere else, but the news is encouraging in Knoxville.

We also have an interview with one of the new enrollees to talk about that was published Tuesday. Finally, another coach in the athletic program gave an interview about a news event set to happen today. We’ll cover that as well. Let’s start with Pruitt, though.

With players returning to campus and summer enrollees arriving throughout the week, Tennessee Vols football head coach Jeremy Pruitt provided some encouraging news on Tuesday. According to Pruitt, at that point, none of the players had yet tested positive for COVID-19. He noted that they already brought in 91 guys and will have 10 to 20 more come over the next 10 to 14 days.

"“We’ve not had any positives within our student-athletes. We did have one graduate assistant that did test positive, and he’s been quarantined for 14 days. That’s been a positive for us. Our guys started back to work voluntarily yesterday, and they’ll continue to push forward.”"

Three-star athlete Len’Neth Whitehead out of Athens, Ga. was one of many summer enrollees to join the Tennessee football program over the weekend. Whitehead is a guy who could play inside linebacker or running back but will start his career at running back. Here’s a bit of what he said about why he chose Rocky Top.

"“I looked at all that stuff. I looked at the culture, the tradition at Tennessee, and I just wanted to be a part of something that big; something that was bigger than me.”"

Tony Vitello discusses MLB DraftSports Talk, WNML

Today marks the first day of the 2020 MLB Draft. There are multiple Tennessee Vols baseball players expected to be taken. Ahead of the event, Tennessee baseball coach Tony Vitello went on Sports Talk to discuss what he expects out of the event in regards to his players. Here’s a bit of what he said about the development of Garrett Crochet, a projected first-round pick.

"“It’s obviously been a fun ride. It’s also kind of been shocking at times to see the jump physically with the body, the maturation process or just kind of the things that have come with his personality or mentality. Those are slower to come, and there’s no measurables to those, but the physicality has been impressive.”"
