Tennessee football’s top 10 NFL WRs of all time
Teams played for:
- Minnesota Vikings, 2013-2016
- Oakland Raiders, 2017
- New England Patriots, 2018
- Chicago Bears, 2019-present
By including kickoff and punt return success for wide receiver, Cordarrelle Patterson found his way on here. Otherwise, that 10th spot would have gone to Cedrick Wilson. Patterson spent one year with Tennessee football, playing in that high-powered offense that still led to a 5-7 season Derek Dooley’s final year in 2012. He thrived as a return specialist and catching passes from Tyler Bray.
Patterson went in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. With the Minnesota Vikings, he made two Pro Bowls and three All-Pro teams. He then went to the Oakland Raiders in 2017 and joined the New England Patriots in 2018, where he won a Super Bowl and earned All-Pro again. With the Chicago Bears, he made his fourth Pro Bowl and his sixth All-Pro team, third First-team, in 2019.
The success of Patterson has everything to do with his exploits on special teams. He’s never had over 500 yards receiver. However, he has seven kickoff returns for touchdowns in his career. Also, he has been effective in the offense in various ways. In his first season, he went over 600 yards from scrimmage with nine total touchdowns.
As a 6’2″ 238-pound receiver, the key for Patterson in the pros has been to find ways to put the ball in his hand. He has 1,955 receiving yards, 785 rushing yards and 24 total touchdowns when you take his return game into account for his career. If he keeps this up, he could eventually become a top five player on this list.
