Tennessee football’s 10 DTs with best NFL careers
Teams played for:

- New Orleans Saints, 2011-2012
After the departure of Jesse Mahelona and the season-ending injury to Justin Harrell, Turk McBride became Tennessee football’s feature defensive tackle in 2006. He proved his worth that year with 68 tackles, eight and a half tackles for a loss, a forced fumble and a pass broken up as the Vols went 9-4, an improvement from their 5-6 season the previous year.
That success led to McBride being taken in the second round of the NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. At 6’4″ 285 pounds, he moved around between defensive end and defensive tackle, but defensive tackle was his primary position. As a rookie, McBride appeared in all 16 games and started in one of them.
The next year, McBride became a key player on the team, starting in nine games. After being waived at the start of the 2009 season, he ended up signing with the Detroit Lions, who were rebuilding with Matthew Stafford. There, McBride was a regular contributor, and he once again became a starter in 2010.
McBride finished his run by playing for the New Orleans Saints his final two years. Over his six years in the pros, he appeared in 66 games and started 24 of them. When he could start, he was highly effective, as he finished his career with 125 tackles, nine and a half sacks, 22.5 tackles for a loss and six forced fumbles. It’s safe to say he clearly had a solid career in the pros.
