The Tennessee Vols athletic director on prepping for 2020 leads our June 25 Volunteers news.

With a new spike in coronavirus cases, the college football season is once again coming into question. That’s a big worry for Tennessee Vols fans, who desperately want to see what Jeremy Pruitt has put together for his third time. However, there are some voices who continue to provide words of encouragement.

Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with UT athletic director Phillip Fulmer providing an update on the situation. Fulmer has been on top of the COVID-19 pandemic from the start and gone out of his way to provide the proper leadership.

In addition to Fulmer, we have a couple of stories surrounding people formerly affiliated with UT, including a former player and a former assistant coach in their new career roles. So today’s coverage is all about football. Let’s start with the update for 2020.

Phillip Fulmer discusses preparing for 2020 seasonMidday 180, 104.5 The Zone

As questions remain about 2020, Tennessee Vols athletic director went on a Nashville radio show Wednesday to discuss the state of the program. He praised the late Johnny Majors along with Jeremy Pruitt’s handling of the current events int he world, and he said he expects Neyland Stadium to be full this year. Here’s a bit of what else he said about handling the pandemic.

"It’s unprecedented, and I’ve heard people say there really is no playbook for what we’re all going through — not just our state or country, but really the whole world. The good thing, in my position, is we really haven’t been out there by ourselves. We’ve had really good guidance from the state and from the local health department both and their processes. And sometimes you have to adjust along the way."

Jauan jennings signs with San Francisco – 49ers.com

Seventh-round NFL Draft pick Jauan Jennings has signed his rookie deal with the San Francisco 49ers. The former Tennessee football wide receiver and Murfreesboro, Tenn. native is locked in for four years.

"Jennings (6-3, 212) was selected by the 49ers in the seventh round (217th overall) of this year’s NFL Draft out of Tennessee. He appeared in 50 games (30 starts) in five years (2015-19) at Tennessee and finished his collegiate career ranked fifth in school history in receptions (146), fourth in receiving yards (2,153) and tied for fifth in touchdown receptions (18)."

Larry Scott talks becoming Howard head coach – Dan Harralson, VolsWire.com

Former Tennessee Vols football assistant Larry Scott is entering his first year as head coach of the Howard Bison. Scott was UT’s tight ends and special teams coach in 2016 and then served as offensive coordinator in 2017. He served as interim head coach of the Miami Hurricanes in 2015. Recently, he spoke about taking his new job amidst the pandemic. Here’s a bit of what he said.

"“It’s definitely been fun, been a whirlwind, happened really really fast, and we’ve been trying to put this thing together. You know, there hasn’t really been a blueprint on how to do it this way.”"
