Tennessee football’s top 25 single-game performances in history

Tennessee Volunteers win 27-14
4.5 sacks
Four-sack games should always be on the list, even if they are meaningless outings. Tennessee football had one of those meaningless outings in 2013 at the Kentucky Wildcats. The Vols had just lost to the Vanderbilt Commodores the week before, assuring that they would miss a bowl game for the third straight year and have a fourth straight losing season.
It was Butch Jones’ first year, so he was forgiven, especially due to the season-ending injury to quarterback Justin Worley and the recruiting classes people saw him set to bring in. Still, missing out on that bowl game was painful for all Vol fans, as they wanted to see the seniors who had suffered under Derek Dooley reach a bowl game.
Defensive end Corey Miller was one of those seniors. He had to labor through the Sal Sunseri fiasco and switch to a 3-4 back in 2012 and then switch back to a 4-3 in 2013, where more pressure was put on him as that scheme was nickel-based, unlike Justin Wilcox’s linebacker-based 4-3 in 2010 and 2011. Well, Miller made the most of it, particularly in his final game.
At Kentucky, Miller set a school-record for sacks in a game, as he came away with four and a half, breaking the school-record set by Reggie White that we mentioned earlier. That game led to the Vols securing a 27-14 win to finish 5-7. Entering the game, Miller had five career sacks. He nearly doubled it on this outing, earning his way onto the list.
