From 2001 to 2004, Colquitt was a star on Rocky Top. He single-handedly won two games as an All-American in 2003, against the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Miami Dolphins. His final punt at Miami, which forced a fumble that allowed the Vols to recover and run out the clock for a 10-6 win, may be the greatest punt in history. The guy was a star.
Because of how great he was, the Kansas City Chiefs took him in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft, abnormally high for a punter. Well, 15 years later, that pick has paid off, as Colquitt has never missed a start with them.
With a career NET average of 40 yards, an insane stat, Colquitt is on track to become only the second punter in NFL history after Ray Guy to make the Hall-of-Fame. He has made two Pro Bowl appearances, in 2012 and 2015, and should have made more. Recently, he just won a Super Bowl championship, accomplishing everything a punter could in the pros.
Over the course of 15 years, Colquitt has 50,393 career punt yards. He has had the longest punt of the year three times, including an 81-yarder in 2007, and he is averaging 44.8 yards per punt on 1,124 punts. The guy is a star punter, and he has built a name for himself like no other. As a result, he’s Tennessee football’s greatest special teams player in the NFL of all time.
