Coronavirus updates surrounding Tennessee Vols football leads our July 2, 2020 Volunteers news.
As COVID-19 cases continue to surge throughout the U.S., the status of college football season is once again in doubt despite the NCAA approving the six-week plan last month. Things are now in limbo and won’t provide a clear picture for at least two weeks. How is this all affecting the Tennessee Vols right now?
Well, our morning update on Rocky Top leads with just that, as an update on the status of the football program related to the virus was provided in an interview on Wednesday. It was part of an all-encompassing interview, which we’ll discuss.
In addition to that update, we’ll discuss a new ticket plan for the athletic program for 2020-2021, assuming that the athletic year still happens, and we also have a feature on a former Vol’s NFL hopes. So there’s a good bit to cover here. Let’s start with the major news surrounding the football program, though.
Jeremy Pruitt update on UT players, COVID-19 – Dan Patrick Show, YouTube
On Wednesday, Tennessee Vols football head coach went on the Dan Patrick Show to discuss the morale of the team and provide updates on the status of his players as it relates to coronavirus. Pruitt said there hadn’t been any players in the football program test positive for the virus yet. Here’s a bit of what else he said on the matter.
"“Our medical staff has done an outstanding job getting out players back and working a plan and through the SEC. We’ve done a nice job executing the plan, and we’ve got to continue to do that.”"
UT transitioning to mobile ticketing – UTSports
The University of Tennessee announced that it would be transitioning to mobile ticketing for the 2020-2021 athletic school year in all sports after trying it out in football for 2019. Mobile tickets are scanned on smart phones when entering stadiums. It is considered a more efficient way to deal with traffic flow and a safer way in terms of limiting the transmission of things like COVID-19.
"Mobile tickets also provide heightened security against counterfeit or stolen tickets. Tennessee fans who find themselves unable to attend certain games now have the ability to conveniently transfer tickets to friends or family members digitally, without the need for shipping or swapping physical tickets in person."
Daniel Bituli discusses NFL future – Kellyanne Stitts, WATE-TV
After going undrafted and having to wait to get signed due to an injury issue, former Tennessee Vols football linebacker Daniel Bituli is now working towards an NFL future with the team that signed him, the Los Angeles Rams. Recently, he discussed how he fits in with the franchise, noting that he fits in well because they run the same system he ran on Rocky Top.
"Bituli said he just has to get comfortable with some of the different verbiage they use calling plays and minor adjustments on defense that are different than Tennessee, but other than that he is ready and excited to learn under Joe Barry and get the opportunity to play for Sean McVay (the youngest head coach to in football history to lead his team to the Super Bowl). Besides physically preparing, Bituli mentally prepares by watching film like “it’s Netflix.”"
