Projected backups

Jordan Allen; Redshirt senior; 6’4″ 241 pounds; Fairfield, Calif.

Initially a four-star junior college edge rusher out of City College of San Francisco, Jordan Allen missed all of last year due to injury. He then spent the offseason converting to tight end. The product of Armijo High School in Northern California is now likely in line to see lots of action this year, but his role is still unclear with Princeton Fant and Austin Pope still on the roster.

Jacob Warren; Redshirt sophomore; 6’6″ 244 pounds; Knoxville, Tenn.

Another local product out of Farragut High School, Jacob Warren redshirted in 2018, and last year he saw action in five games as a reserve while catching one pass. As a result, his experience will make him the top tight end of the future on this list, which puts him fourth on the depth chart.

Sean Brown; Redshirt freshman; 6’5″ 241 pounds; Rome, Ga.

One of two tight ends to redshirt as freshmen last year, Sean Brown saw action in two games for Tennessee football. As a result, the product of Coosa High School is prepared to be a rotational player this year if needed.

Jackson Lowe; Redshirt freshman; 6’4″ 245 pounds; Cartersville Ga.

Coming out of Cartersville High School in Georgia, Jackson Lowe was the other tight end to redshirt last year. However, he saw no action, which is why we have him a spot below Brown.

Dee Beckwith; Freshman; 6’5″ 215 pounds; Florence, Ala.

It’s more likely that Dee Beckwith, out of Florence High School in Alabama, plays receiver as a three-star athlete in the Vols’ 2020 class. However, his size could allow for him to play tight end, but as a true freshman, he’ll be buried there this year.

Hunter Salmon; Redshirt freshman; 6’5″ 248 pounds; Birmingham, Ala.

A walk-on out of Vestavia High School in Alabama, Hunter Salmon brings great size to the position, even for tight end. He’s likely to see limited action this year, though, if any.
