Tennessee basketball’s top 10 shots in history
10. Dane Bradshaw tip-in
2006 vs. Oklahoma State (Nashville)
As the only senior on the team in Bruce Pearl’s second season, Dane Bradshaw had to be the glue guy for Tennessee basketball. With the team still undersized, he was the only true point guard but would play power forward despite just being 6’4″. The result was him dictating the offense from the post, and he took a lot of hits in the process.
In this game, which took place in December of the 2006-2007 season, UT was 8-2 and on a four-game winning streak, including a dominant win over the Memphis Tigers in Knoxville, after losing both preseason NIT games at Madison Square Garden in New York earlier in the year. The Oklahoma State Cowboys, meanwhile, were 11-0 and ranked No. 15. Rocky Top was unranked.
The year before, OSU had blown out the Vols because the team was too small, and this Vol team was even smaller. Bradshaw, with a sprained shoulder, was already playing at a disadvantage. However, he was the guy who came through late. In a back and fourth game, a couple of key plays by him kept the team in it late. Then, with the score tied at 77, it happened.
Bradshaw found Jauan Smith for a backdoor cut on a beautiful pass with 10 seconds to go. Smith, missed the layup. However, Bradshaw, using the arm in which he had the sprained shoulder, tipped in the miss. That gave the Vols a 79-77 lead with one and a half seconds left, and they held on to win with that score. The toughness combined with the thrill is why this makes the list.
