4. Lamonte Turner three-point buzzer beater

2019 vs. VCU (Niceville, Fla.; Emerald Coast Classic third-place game)

Early in the 2019-2020 season, it looked like Tennessee basketball could replace its four starters from a year ago with a 5-0 start and top 25 ranking. Lamonte Turner and Jordan Bowden were carrying the way.

Turner, however, was struggling with a shoulder injury and the transition from combo guard to full-time point guard, which killed his efficiency. In the Emerald Coast Classic, the Vols barely lost to the Florida State Seminoles to fall to 5-1.

In the consolation game, the Vols built a 13-point lead in the second half against the No. 20 ranked VCU Rams. However, VCU fought back and made it a game, taking the lead at times late. With UT up by three with five seconds to go, though, De’Riante Jenkins hit a three to tie it up.

At that time, Turner had just nine points and was shooting barely 30 percent from the field. However, Barnes decided to go with him for the game-winner on the ensuing in-bounds play after a timeout, showing his confidence.

With that confidence, Turner drilled the game-winning three as time expired, proving he still had the clutch gene. Buzzer beaters rank higher on our list, and this was a fadeaway baseline three. Such a difficult shot easily makes this a top five one, and it was a final memorable play by Turner. Later in the year, his senior year would be cut short by season-ending shoulder surgery.
