Here is a look at the Tennessee football Volunteers secondary for 2020.
One aspect of Tennessee football that was certain when Jeremy Pruitt was hired was that the secondary would be elite. Pruitt made a name for himself as a great defensive backs coach, which is how he got his chance to become a defensive coordinator in the first place.
After bringing in Derrick Ansley, another coach who has built a great reputation for leading defensive backs, to be his defensive coordinator last year, he only doubled the great coaching of that position. Now, with some stability, that is one area generating tons of hype this season.
Despite the loss of its best defensive back from last year, safety Nigel Warrior, Tennessee football returns tons of elite talent. The Vols also have a good mix of young talent to provide depth and have a solid rotation.
What does it all mean, though? As we continue our preview for the 2020 Vols, our look at the secondary will analyze why the unit has a couple of concerns while having a ton of hype at the same time.
Standout stars and experience make up the unit in one area, and youth and potential make it up in another area. As a result, this could end up being the most intriguing unit on the team, particularly given the focus two of the main coaches put on it.
We’ll separate the slides by projected starting cornerbacks and nickel, projected starting safeties, rotational cornerbacks, rotational safeties, projected backup cornerbacks and projected backup safeties. Simply put, we’ve got a lot of players to cover.
As usual, we’ll close things out with our biggest questions and our final take. So let’s go ahead and dive in, analyzing the unit that has a ton of hype behind it. This is our preview for the Tennessee football safeties heading into the 2020 season.
