Take a look at the Tennessee football Volunteers’ new shoes for 2020.

After talking in early May about the possibility of bringing back the black jerseys, it looks like Tennessee football is now adding even more flare to its uniform under Jeremy Pruitt. This is definitely a departure from what he believed when he first took over.

The Vols appear to be changing up their footwear now for the 2020 season now as well, assuming a season actually does take place. UT has received three different new types of sneakers from Nike, and all of these cleats look pretty amazing.

One of the pairs is white in the front, orange in the back and has the Nike checkmark in black. The other two are all black with white checkmarks, although one of them doesn’t have visible laces. Here’s a look at all three of them, released on the Tennessee football Twitter account.

When Pruitt was hired back in 2017, it was clear that the Vols would be going to a more old-school look. That made sense with Phillip Fulmer taking back over as athletic director. There would be no more Smokey Grays, and the cleats would all return to traditional form, being black with white socks.

This all made sense as a program that was trying to restore itself to where it was in the 1990s. Heck, Pruitt even restored the pro-style offense. However, a little bit of new blood for buzz never  hurt, and Pruitt has now worked to combine the two.

For instance, while bringing back the cleats and the black jerseys, the school has also returned to an older tradition of the double-striped pants, whether they be orange stripes on white pants or white stripes on orange pants. Under Pruitt, UT just had solid pant.

Will this make a difference on the field? Well, jerseys don’t win games. But this gives Tennessee football fans something to be excited about, so they should embrace it. All new uniform combos are exciting to see.
