Florida. 3rd year (12th overall). player. 840. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Dan Mullen. 3

Record at Florida: 21-5 (11-5); Overall record: 90-51

Yes, this was the shock. We had Dan Mullen and Kirby Smart switch places. There are a couple of reasons for this. Mullen has the Florida Gators, despite not winning an SEC title, still competing right there each year. Smart is another year removed from his only SEC title, meanwhile, and Mullen has his years with the Mississippi State Bulldogs to fall back on.

Taking all of that into account, Mullen right now is No. 3. Now, to stay here, he finally has to take UF to the next level, which means back to winning the SEC East and competing for championships. In fact, the winner of the East between Florida and Georgia, assuming it comes down to those two schools, will determine which coach is in this spot.

If either of those coaches wins the national title, however unlikely for Mullen, they will have proven enough to move up to No. 2 on the list. At this point, Tennessee football fans are grateful they landed Jeremy Pruitt over Mullen, but the fact of the matter is Mullen has instant credibility and pretty quickly returned Florida back to the status of title contenders.

Few coaches in the SEC are as proven as Mullen. Taking MSU to No. 1 in the nation in November still counts for something, and it actually counts more at this point than Jimbo Fisher’s national championship. That’s why he is back up this list, and a title of any kind will cement his spot here while potentially moving him up.
