The Tennessee Vols continuing their preseason leads our Sept. 14, 2020 Volunteers news.

Two weeks of college football have been played, but the Tennessee Vols will have to go another Saturday before they begin their season. As a result, they continue their preseason work ahead of their Sept. 26 opener at the South Carolina Gamecocks, and their were more developments on that front over the weekend.

Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with an interview with multiple players about the state of the program as it was wrapping up its fourth week of preseason practices. That’s just one of multiple interviews conducted over the weekend making our updates.

We also have an interview with a men’s basketball player and women’s basketball head coach Kellie Harper to cover. So all three major sports on campus get some coverage. Let’s start with the football news.

This past week of the Tennessee Vols football preseason concluded with a Saturday night scrimmage. Ahead of that event, three seniors spoke with the media on Friday. They were wide receiver Brandon Johnson, kicker Brent Cimaglia and running back Ty Chandler.

Victor Bailey Jr. discusses upcoming season – Dan Harralson, VolsWire.com

After transferring from the Oregon Ducks and sitting out last season, Tennessee Vols men’s basketball guard Victor Bailey Jr. is set to retake the court this year. Over the weekend, he met with the media on a zoom call to discuss his transition to learning how to run the point and his relationship with the program and Rick Barnes. Here’s a bit of what he said.

"“That year sitting out for me was good, it was a struggle because it’s hard to watch my teammates play. I was able to sit down and watch tape and watch film of (Jordan) Bone and get to see Santi and those guys run the point and do it everyday in practice. It helped a lot.”"

Kellie Harper talks roster – Maria M. Cornelius, GoVols247

With questions out there as to whether or not the Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team will be able to start the season on time, head coach Kellie Harper talked preparing as if everything is going to plan right now. Harper said she likes her new roster, which lost two combo guards to transfer but added three new freshman and two new transfers. Here’s a bit of what Harper said.

"“I am preparing to play on time, on schedule,” Harper said. “And then if we end up having to pivot, make changes, then we’re going to be flexible enough to do that. The way I am approaching this preseason is to prepare our team as best as possible but be prepared at any moment to make changes – and whatever that looks like.”"
