9. Oct. 10 – at Georgia Bulldogs

Now we go to the other circled loss on the schedule for Tennessee football and another former boss of Jeremy Pruitt. The Vols play Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs the third week of the season, and it’s safe to say that they probably have no chance of winning this one the same way they have no chance of beating the Alabama Crimson Tide.

After all, these two teams are facing off in Athens, and there’s a legitimate argument that Georgia is more talented than the Alabama Crimson Tide this year. Simply put, UT fans should write off this game as well, and given what they are trying to build as a program, that’s ok for now. The UGA Dawgs will just have to win a fourth straight in the series.

However, this one is slightly ahead of the Alabama game. One reason is because the Vols will want to look at Georgia as a measuring stick for confidence as to where they stand with the top-notch teams in the conference. Playing this team close could be a big momentum for the team boost going forward.

A bigger reason, though, is the fact that Georgia is an SEC East matchup. Nobody expects the Vols to compete in the division this year, but there’s always that off-chance. If that happens, well, Georgia is one of the teams they’ll have to knock off. As a result, UGA still belongs near the bottom of this list but ahead of Alabama.
