5. Dec. 5 – Florida Gators

We’ve moved beyond circled games on either side. Taking those into account, Tennessee football now has games that could bounce either way. The first on that list is the Florida Gators, the final game of the year for the Vols. That one teeters between being a circled loss and a likely loss, but such flirtation alone puts it ahead of the other five games.

If UF is a circled loss, we have UT at 3-3 right now. A likely loss has them at 3-2 so far with the chance of a game to steal. Anyway, Florida is a top 10 program just like the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide under Dan Mullen and flirting with the top five. They are a national title contending team and just missed out on such success last year.

However, this team is a slight step below those other two. It also plays the Vols the last game of the year in Knoxville in December, when it could be much colder than what UF players are used to. Given those facts, the Vols have a better chance against the team that has won 14 of 15 against them than they usually would.

Combine that with the fact that this is an SEC East game, and we’ve shot it up the list. If, again, by some chance the Vols are in contention to win the division later in the year, this game could be massive. Our projection that it won’t is the only reason we don’t have it higher on the list.
