Tennessee football: Ranking 2020 games by importance
4. Nov. 14 – Texas A&M Aggies
Moving on from the fringe games to ones that firmly are in the likely loss column, the Texas A&M Aggies are much better than Tennessee football. However, Jeremy Pruitt is going up against a third former boss on his schedule with this one, facing Jimbo Fisher, under whom he served as defensive coordinator when the Florida State Seminoles won the national championship in 2013.
Anyway, Texas A&M heads to Knoxville for what could be an epic November showdown. Although they are a top 12 team and a top 10 caliber team, the went 8-5 just like the Vols last year. As a result, assuming UT wins its circled and toss-up games, A&M is one of the standout teams it should hope to pull an upset over to reach a winning record this year.
Now, we should note that the 8-5 records were not of the same quality. Four of Texas A&M’s five losses were to teams in the College Football Playoff race during the last week of the season, two of which were to teams that made the playoff, and the other was to a team that finished in the top 15. UT lost two home games to Group of Five schools.
Still, the turnaround by the Vols last year has produced more faith in Pruitt than Fisher among a lot of people, and that may trickle down to the players. As a result, this should be a game the Vols put a lot of emphasis on. Pulling off an upset here would work wonders for them.
