Pick Analysis. 7. player. Scouting Report. Tight end. Florida Gators. Kyle Pitts. 840

Junior; Philadelphia, Pa.

Dan Mullen’s system relies heavily on tight ends when it can, and if there’s one tight end likely to give Tennessee football lots of trouble this year, Kyle Pitts is that guy. A 6’6″ 240-pound graduate of Archbishop Wood High School in Pennsylvania, Pitts adds an element to the Florida Gators’ spread offense that makes them extremely difficult to control.

Pitts is a great blocker and a great receiver. His versatility allows for so many things to happen. Last year, he had 54 receptions for 649 yards and five touchdowns. Against the Vols, he had one of his best games, catching four passes for 62 yards and a touchdown. Jeremy Pruitt’s and Derrick Ansley’s blitz packages can be neutralized heavily by Pitts and players similar to him.

This year, with more experience, expectations are for Pitts to burst onto the scene even more. With Van Jefferson gone, Pitts is the leading returning receiver, and you can bet that he’ll get a ton of targets throughout the year. Obviously, this year UT will face UF on Dec. 5, so they will have a much better scouting report on Florida than years past.

However, that scouting report is highly likely to include Pitts, who could be an All-American candidate by that point. He’s probably the best tight end in the SEC entering the season, and if he could do what he did last year against Rocky Top, there’s no telling how great he could be this year against them.
