844. . 0-1. . Razorbacks . 13. team

Lost to Georgia Bulldogs 37-10

We knew Sam Pittman would instill a level of toughness into the Arkansas Razorbacks, and that’s something Tennessee football will have to be prepared for when the two schools face off later in the year. However, hanging with the Georgia Bulldogs for a half is nowhere near enough evidence for us to have them that high in our SEC Power Rankings.

Now, hanging with UGA when it mattered, unlike the Missouri Tigers did with the Alabama Crimson Tide, puts Arkansas ahead of Mizzou. However, the crazy part is Arkansas hung around for a half and still nearly allowed Georgia to cover in the end. Kirby Smart’s team was two points away from being the spread.

Feleipe Franks and Rakeem Boyd look like they could do some damage in Kendal Briles’ offense, especially with Treylon Burks to throw to. However, we can’t overlook the fact that this defense allowed three straight touchdowns in the third quarter after leading 10-5 and let UGA score 32 unanswered points in the second half. The minute the Dawgs gave an effort, it was over.

As a result, the Hogs are still near the bottom of our power rankings for now, but not being dead last is an improvement on its own from last year. Now they get to face another first-year head coach next in the Mississippi State Bulldogs, and all of a sudden, that game looks like it could be brutal for them. We’ll see how real that half was soon enough.
