Linebacker. 839. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Senior. Deandre Johnson. 5. player

2 solo tackles, 1 sack, 1 QB hurry

We said in the opening slide that there were some players who made a couple of big plays that were enough for them to make it on this list. Players who did that were largely on defense, as Tennessee football was in bend but don’t break mode for most of the game and would have a huge moment as the Missouri Tigers were threatening.

Deandre Johnson was one of those guys. After two and a half sacks last week, Johnson came through again for the Vols. Trailing 14-3 in the second quarter, Mizzou had a 3rd and 8 on the UT 30-yard line. They found a spark with Connor Bazelak stepping in at quarterback to replace Shawn Robinson, and the Vols looked like they could blow their 14-0 lead.

Well, Johnson stepped in and came away with a huge sack. That forced Missouri to settle for a field goal, which didn’t seem like much at the time, but it was huge for momentum. If Johnson hadn’t come up with that sack, the Tigers may have driven down the field and scored, making things scary on Rocky Top for a little while.

In addition to that sack, Johnson did have a quarterback hurry, so Derrick Ansley continues to maximize his potential well. The 6’3″ 255-pound outside linebacker is filling Darrell Taylor’s shoes nicely so far, and he was a huge reason that the Vols continued to stay in control of Saturday’s game. As a result, he makes the list.
