Offensive grades

Quarterback: A

Jarrett Guarantano once again didn’t have any turnovers, he completed over 60 percent of his passes and he averaged over eight yards an attempt. Oh, he also threw for a touchdown and ran for two more. This time around, he also had no issues with accuracy, so the unit gets an A.

Running back: A+

What else can we say when Tennessee football had two running backs gain over 100 yards from scrimmage in Ty Chandler and Eric Gray while also combining for three touchdowns? Oh, we could add that Jabari Small had four carries for 27 yards. This unit was perfect all day.

Wide receiver: B+

There wasn’t much reliance on the receivers in this game like last game, but Brandon Johnson had three key third-down catches, Josh Palmer had four catches for 71 yards and Jalin Hyatt arrived with two catches for 54 yards. Velus Jones Jr. had a key 22-yard reception as well.

Tight end: B

Nobody caught any passes for the Vols at this position on the day, but run-blocking counts at tight end. Given the way UT dominated on the ground, there’s no way we can ignore that success and say the tight ends weren’t at least above average.

Offensive line: A

With Cade Mays in the game, this unit was incredible, paving the way for 230 rushing yards. The offensive line is why Guarantano converted on six quarterback sneaks. However, we couldn’t give it an A+ because of one drive, in which on a 3rd and 1, Mays had a false start, Darnell Wright had a holding and Jerome Carvin then allowed a sack. You can’t be perfect when that happens.

Overall grade: A-

There were only three drives all day in which the Vols did not score touchdowns. They mostly moved down the field at will, overwhelming the Missouri Tigers up front. As a result, this unit obviously gets an above average grade.
