Tennessee football up two spots in SEC Power Rankings after Week 5 of 2020
Lost to LSU Tigers 41-7
Last week, the Vanderbilt Commodores got credit for playing the Texas A&M Aggies close. Well, Texas A&M just got blown out by the Alabama Crimson Tide. How did Derek Mason’s team respond to this newfound momentum? It managed to get blown out by the LSU Tigers, who lost to a team last week that just lost this past week.
So when you take everything into account, Vanderbilt isn’t just 0-2. Both of their losses are to teams whose only wins are against them. There’s nothing to suggest we should read anything into last week’s game. Playing a team close means nothing if you are that team’s only win. Simply put, Vandy is where it usually is: at the bottom of the SEC.
Although there was a decent rushing attack with Ja’Veon Marlow and Jamauri Wakefield while Cam Johnson emerged as a potential weapon in the passing game, Vandy’s offense did very little, generating only 266 yards against a defense that was disastrous the week before. Ken Seals couldn’t get anything going.
At this point, the offense only looks like it will play well against Tennessee football since it always plays well against the Vols. That was a joke. Anyway, up next for Vandy is a home game agains the South Carolina Gamecocks and a trip to the Missouri Tigers, two 0-2 teams, so if they are going to prove they have anything this year, the next two weeks will be the time for that.
