Stock down

Field goal kicking

Brent Cimaglia was a preseason All-SEC place kicker and was supposed to be the best in the league with the departure of Rodrigo Blankenship. What else would you expect from a guy who nailed 23 of 27 field goals last year, hit nine of 11 beyond 40, was two-for-two beyond 50, including a 53-yarder, and still hasn’t missed an extra point?

Well, he’s struggling now. Cimaglia has only hit one of three attempts through two games and nothing beyond 30. He missed a 39-yarder on Saturday, an area where he should be automatic. The best that can be said is he didn’t miss an extra point. We would say he’ll snap out of it, but kickers are too unpredictable. As a result, his stock is down and not worth buying.

Defensive line

Despite a solid pass rush at times, Tennessee football’s defensive line did not get the push it needed to up front once Connor Bazelak came into the game and brought balance. Larry Rountree III had 18 carries for 84 yards and a touchdown, the Vols only had five tackles for a loss on the day, and the left side of Mizzou’s offensive line averaged grades in the 80s in pass blocking.

Although run blocking wasn’t great by the Tigers, the lack of push by the Vols in pass protection allowed more balance overall for Rountree to be effective. As a result, this unit has some improving to do early on in the season. The stock is not as bad as place kicking, but it’s problematic at the moment.
