Jeremy Pruitt previewing the Tennessee Vols at the Bulldogs leads our Oct. 6 Volunteers news.

It’s Georgia week. Tennessee Vols football fans haven’t been this excited about a game against a ranked SEC team since 2016, when they jumped out to a 5-0 start under Butch Jones and got into the top 10, culminating with their Hail Mary win to beat the Bulldogs in Athens, Ga. thanks to Joshua Dobbs and Jauan Jennings.

Things are different this time around, but UT fans still have reason to be excited. Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with coverage of this week’s upcoming game, as the program held its weekly press conference on Monday.

Beyond football, though, there are plenty of other stories to get to. A Lady Vol legend earned another award, we’ve got details on plans for another fall sport’s return, and there’s an ongoing tournament to cover in another sport. Let’s start with football news, though.

Following the Tennessee Vols football program’s 35-12 win over the Missouri Tigers Saturday, head coach Jeremy Pruitt held his weekly press conference Monday. He said Jahmir Johnson, Elijah Simmons and Bryce Thompson should be ready to go, but he didn’t update the status of Shawn Shamburger. Here’s a bit of what he said about the Georgia Bulldogs.

"“They’ve got good speed and they’re physical on the coverage team, so they don’t have a weakness. It’ll be a tremendous challenge for us, but something that we’re looking forward to.”"

Candace Parker earns All-WNBA First Team – WNBA.com

Former Tennessee Lady Vols start Candace Parker joined league MVP MVP A’ja Wilson as the two unanimous selections for All-WNBA First Team. Parker, who was also named Defensive Player of the Year, was named first team for the sixth time, and this was the ninth time she earned All-WNBA honors in general.

"Voting for the All-WNBA First and Second Teams was conducted at the conclusion of the regular season.  Players were selected by position and received five points for each First Team vote and three points for each Second Team vote.  If a player received votes at multiple positions, she was slotted at the position where she received the most votes."

Golf completes first day of Blessings Collegiate – Adam Woodard, Golfweek

As the Tennessee Vols men’s and women’s golf programs completed the first day of the inaugural Blessings Collegiate in Fayetteville, Ark., their showings were wildly different. As UT senior Hunter Wolcott led the field by one stroke at four under par, the men finished Day One in first place by seven strokes, shooting eight under par. The women tied for seventh at 16-over par.

"Five awards will be handed out after Wednesday’s final round to the men’s and women’s team and individual champions, as well as one to the school with the best overall combined scores. The action continues Tuesday morning in Arkansas, with Golf Channel airing the tournament from 3:30-7:30 p.m. ET."

With their home opener just over three weeks away, the Tennessee Lady Vols volleyball program announced seating plans for its 2020 season at Thompson-Boling Arena to deal with the pandemic. Tickets will be sent by mobile delivery, and fans are encouraged to download them onto their phones.
