Players previewing the Tennessee Vols game at the Bulldogs leads our Oct. 7, 2020 Volunteers news.

The middle of the week has arrived, and a major test for the Tennessee Vols football team under Jeremy Pruitt inches closer and closer as they get set to visit the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday. It’s dominating the coverage here.

Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with continued preparations for that game. We have updates on things UT worked on Tuesday, and we also have a few interesting interviews related to that matchup to bring you.

Beyond football, though, other events are going on as well, and the men’s and women’s golf programs continue to make news with what they are doing. We’ll cover both of those as well. Let’s start, though, with the football news.

Vols take practice field ahead of Georgia – Ryan Callahan, GoVols247

It was back to the practice field for the Tennessee Vols football team Tuesday. Jeremy Pruitt is preparing his team, which is now ranked in the top 15 of both polls, for a crucial matchup at the No. 3 ranked Georgia Bulldogs this weekend.

"Tennessee (2-0) pulled away from Missouri for a 35-12 victory Saturday afternoon at Neyland Stadium that extended the Vols’ winning streak to eight games, while Georgia (2-0) rolled to a 27-6 win over then-No. 7 Auburn. The Bulldogs have won their past three meetings with Tennessee, including a 43-14 victory last year in Knoxville, all of which have been decided by 26 points or more."

As Tennessee football was returning to the practice field to prepare for the Bulldogs, a variety of players spoke on the state of the program and the upcoming game. Brandon Kennedy, Henry To’o To’o and Ty Chandler all met with the media Tuesday. Kennedy discussed the offensive line play against the Missouri Tigers. Here’s a bit of what he said.

"“As an offensive line, we knew that we wanted to be physical going in, but we kind of left a few things out there. In the next game, we want to be able to pick up on those things and be a little bit better.”"

To’o To’o talked about the level of excitement for this week’s game. Here’s a bit of what he said.

"“We come out with the mentality that it’s another game. We give our all in every single week that we have and that’s something that Coach Pruitt harps on. He tells us that every single week is another opportunity to be the best players you can, be the best team that you can. Yeah, this is a big team, but we got to just have the same mentality throughout the entire season no matter who we’re playing.”"

Chandler discussed being the SEC’s leading rusher right now with 176 yards through two games. Here’s a bit of what he said.

"“It’s a blessing, I have to thank God and big shout out to my momma. And shout out to the offensive line, all those guys: Trey (Smith), Cade (Mays), Darnell (Wright), Jahmir (Johnson), BK (Brandon Kennedy), Wanya (Morris) and all those guys are doing a great job and I want to give back to them. Work for them like they work for me.”"

After finishing Monday in first place, the Tennessee Vols men’s golf program dropped one spot to No. 2 after shooting seven-over par Tuesday, bringing them to one-under par overall. Hunter Wolcott and Bryce Lewis  are tied for fourth at three-under par apiece on the individual leaderboard, but Wolcott also led the first day. Wednesday is the final day of the event.

"Tennessee men’s golf team is two strokes behind Alabama for the lead heading into Wednesday’s final round of The Blessings Collegiate Invitational. The Blessings Collegiate Invitational is being played in Fayetteville, Arkansas."

Women’s golf ninth at Blessings Collegiate – Julie Williams, GolfWeek

At 34-over par, the Tennessee Lady Vols golf program dropped from seventh to ninth place at the Blessings Collegiate in Fayetteville, Ark. Tuesday. The Arkansas Razorbacks are in first with a 10-shot lead at Even, and the LSU Tigers are in second. Arkansas junior Brooke Matthews sits atop the individual leaderboard at 11-under par. Wednesday marks the final day of the event.

"South Carolina is third at 16 over and Ole Miss is fourth at 21 over. The margin is also large on the individual leaderboard as Matthews leads LSU sophomore Ingrid Lindblad by five shots."
