Multiple press conference with Jeremy Pruitt lead our Oct. 8, 2020 Tennessee Vols news.

The biggest matchup of the season so far for the Tennessee Vols football program is two days away, at the Georgia Bulldogs, and they continue to prepare for the showdown. As those preparations carry on, they make their way into our coverage as well.

Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with two more press conferences, before and after practice on Wednesday. There were a few more key updates on the state of the program, including the health of certain players, in these pressers

Beyond football, though, we have a recap of the men’s and women’s golf programs completing their opening tournaments Wednesday. So there is a variety of things for us to get to. Let’s start with football, though.

Jeremy Pruitt speaks at SEC teleconference – Grant Ramey, GoVols247

On Wednesday, Tennessee Vols football head coach Jeremy Pruitt previewed the Georgia Bulldogs on the SEC Coaches teleconference. Pruitt said Bryce Thompson and Shawn Shamburger would be good to go Saturday. He also discussed the potential inclement weather and what it means to be on an eight-game winning streak. Here’s a bit of what else he said.

"“We’re nowhere near where we want to be yet. I think Georgia has won the East now three years in a row. So I can tell you in this conference, each week it’s a battle and it’s hard to beat anybody in this league. For them to be able to be the Eastern Division champions, and I think they won the SEC one of those times out of three years, I think speaks a lot to where their program is at and where we’re trying to get to.”"

Updates on UT provided by Jeremy Pruitt after practice – UTSports

Following the Tennessee football’s practice Wednesday, head coach Jeremy Pruitt addressed the media for the second time that day. He spoke on Key Lawrence’s development, Dee Beckwith now participating with the scout team as he gets healthy, and Aubrey Solomon and Darel Middleton getting back into rhythm after missing lots of practices. Here’s a bit of what else he said.

"“We’ve got a lot of guys that we’re still bringing along, but I thought the effort and intensity was good out there. We’ve got to put two more good days together to get ready for Saturday.”"

Golf programs complete Blessings Collegiate – Brayden Conover, amateurgolf.com

The Tennessee Vols men’s golf program finished second in the Blessings Collegiate Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. with a nine-over par. Redshirt junior Hunter Wolcott tied for second on the player leaderboard at four under, two strokes behind first. Meanwhile, the women’s golf program tied for 11th at 60-over, which the Arkansas Razorbacks won. It was both programs’ opener.

"Alabama’s men’s team took home the team title on the backs of even par performances from Wilson Furr and Tyler Lipscomb. Thomas Ponder (+1) and Davis Shore (+3) gave the Crimson Tide a 4-over, 868 total, clearing the Tennessee Volunteers by five strokes."
