Sometimes, humiliating a team is more fun than just beating them. Such was the case for Tennessee football in 1999. Just like 1997, the Vols had suffered an early-season loss to the Florida Gators. However, a Florida loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide the week before put UT back in the running for the SEC East.

The Vols, however, had to focus, as they were set to visit Alabama after this game. Simply put, things would not be easy. Well, the Georgia Bulldogs, with sophomore Quincy Carter, had rolled to a 4-0 start and once again thought this would be the year they would beat the Vols. They showed it by stomping on the midfield T at the beginning of the game.

That was all the motivation Tee Martin needed. In a battle of top 10 teams, Martin ran for three first-half touchdowns and threw another touchdown pass to Jamal Lewis, who had missed this game the previous year due to injury, to give the Vols a 28-7 halftime lead.

A safety in the second half made it 30-7. However, when the Vols called off the dogs, the Dawgs made it close. Two touchdowns cut it to 30-20 early in the fourth, but true freshman Leonard Scott ran back a kickoff for a touchdown to put the Vols back in control UT won 37-20, clinching an undefeated record against Georgia during the 1990s.
