Speaking of having fun humiliating your opponent, Tennessee football may have never had more fun doing that than in this game. The Vols were facing the undefeated Georgia Bulldogs in Athens, Ga. with a 4-1 record but their only SEC game being a 21-20 loss to the eventual national champion Florid Gators.

At this point, UT was 1-5 against UGA since 2000. A loss the year before spurred a four-game losing streak en route to a meltdown 5-6 season for the Vols. They wanted revenge in this game to prove they were back.

Georgia was young with a future star quarterback in Matthew Stafford, but in this game, Mark Richt went with the veteran in Joe Tereshinski. Despite an ugly win over the Ole Miss Rebels the week before, Tereshinski did have the Dawgs at 5-0 as they looked to repeat as SEC Champions.

Despite UT taking an early 7-3 lead, the Dawgs scored 21 straight, including a punt return for a touchdown. The Vols scored before halftime to make it 24-14, and in the halftime interview, Phillip Fulmer’s quote was, “I don’t know if they can stop us but we can’t stop them.”

Well, in the second half, the Vols broke it open. They intercepted two Georgia passes and forced a fumble, scoring a touchdown off all three turnovers. In addition to that, they blocked a punt for a touchdown. By the end, they had hung 50 on the Dawgs, winning 51-33, and nobody would have known they once trailed 24-7.
