11 tackles (5 solo); 2 TFLs

Nobody is shocked by this one. Henry To’o To’o continues to prove he is the integral part of Tennessee football’s defense, and his play was the reason the Vols took a 21-17 lead into halftime. Proving more and more each week he was able to take the baton from Daniel Bituli, To’o To’o had arguably his best game against his toughest opponent in a year.

For the day, To’o To’o’s 11 tackles were a career high. On top of that, though, five of them were solo, and he had two tackles for a loss. What stands out, though, was when he came through with key plays and what they meant for the game.

To’o To’o had three amazing plays. After UT getting beat by a screen on a 3rd and 9 in the first half, To’o To’o tripped up Kenny McIntosh just enough to stop him short of the first down. Then, on 4th and 1, he took advantage of a great push up front to help come up with a stop on a quarterback sneak by Stetson Bennett. That was huge.

Later in the half, To’o To’o was in on the 3rd and goal and 4th and goal stops. Kirby Smart called two running plays from the one-yard line, and while the defensive line got the push, To’o To’o helped out on the tackles, a huge deal.

Simply put, this guy is elite at stopping the run. He only missed one wrap-up all day, but he only had that chance because of how he filled the gaps. His one weakness is in coverage, and that’s something he, Jeremy Banks and Quavaris Crouch all need to work on. It was an issue Saturday.
