Tennessee football still in top half of SEC Power Rankings after Week 6 of 2020
Defeated Arkansas Razorbacks 30-28
We’ve just discussed how the Auburn Tigers are lucky to be in this spot in our SEC Power Rankings. Technically, though, they did beat the Arkansas Razorbacks, by hook or crook, and as a result they have to be ahead of the Hogs for right now. We have them barely ahead, and it still seems awful putting them here given what happened.
Just like it did under Gus Malzahn in 2014 and in 2018, Auburn’s offense appears to have collapsed the year after beating the Alabama Crimson Tide with the same quarterback. Nick Marshall and Jarrett Stidham both saw regressions, and the same is now happening to Bo Nix. What that means going forward is anybody’s guess.
Nonetheless, this team is still in the top half of the SEC and has a 2-1 record. Both of its wins are over teams that have won a game, and it’s only loss is to one of the only two undefeated teams in the league. As a result, they deserve some credit, and these guys still have a lot to play for. After all, they’re 1-0 in divisional play.
With upcoming games against the South Carolina Gamecocks, Ole Miss Rebels, Mississippi State Bulldogs and LSU Tigers, Auburn could get to 6-1 before facing Tennessee football and the Alabama Crimson Tide. Three of those games, though, are on the road, so they will be tested. But they have a great slate ahead, and that could help them move up this list.
