Tennessee football still in top half of SEC Power Rankings after Week 6 of 2020
Lost to Georgia Bulldogs 44-21
It took one half for Tennessee football to revert back to being somewhere in the middle of the pack of our SEC Power Rankings. The Vols went from having a 21-17 lead over the Georgia Bulldogs to losing 44-21, allowing 27 unanswered points in the second half. In just that short timeframe, it became clear Jeremy Pruitt still has a lot of work to do with his program.
Nonetheless, this team still looks better overall than lots of other 2-1 teams. For starters, UT played UGA a lot tougher than the Auburn Tigers did. Also, the two teams the Vols have beaten, the Missouri Tigers and South Carolina Gamecocks, both won this past weekend. As a result, while they lost, their resume somewhat improved.
Still, there are some concerning things, including fifth-year senior Jarrett Guarantano making some key mistakes and those mistakes coming from his offensive line, which was supposed to be the best in the SEC, struggling severely. These are issues that need to be corrected if Rocky Top is to have a chance at a winning record this year.
On Saturday, they can get one step closer to such a record with the Kentucky Wildcats coming to town. However, after that, they have to visit the Alabama Crimson Tide, and then they have a bye week. Winning this weekend will have them 3-2 returning from their bye, which is exactly where they would have wanted to be at the beginning of the year.
