Tennessee football still in top half of SEC Power Rankings after Week 6 of 2020
Defeated Ole Miss Rebels 63-48
We’ve talked about it for years, but it’s still shocking when a Nick Saban team forgets how to play defense. That’s what happened with the Alabama Crimson Tide this past weekend, as they held off the Ole Miss Rebels, led by Saban’s former offensive coordinator, Lane Kiffin. It was a brutal showdown, and you have to question if Saban still has it defensively.
What’s clear, though, is he does have it offensively. Through the first three weeks of the season, that side of the ball has done everything asked of it. Now, depth is an issue, as it didn’t do well after the starters were pulled against the Missouri Tigers, which is why it only had 38 points. But it mostly stayed in against the Texas A&M Aggies and Ole Miss, scoring 52 and 63 respectively.
Simply put, when Alabama’s offense has to, it can score with anybody. However, struggling like that with a 1-2 team requires us to put it at No. 2 in our SEC Power Rankings for now. These guys have a lot to prove before they are No. 1. It won’t take long for us to find out whether or not this ranking needs to change, though.
Down the road, Alabama has key matchups with Tennessee football, the Mississippi State Bulldogs, the LSU Tigers, the Kentucky Wildcats, the Auburn Tigers and the Arkansas Razorbacks. But their matchup this weekend is against the only other undefeated team in the league, and that team is next in these rankings.
