Tennessee football still in top half of SEC Power Rankings after Week 6 of 2020
Lost to Alabama Crimson Tide 63-48
Even in a loss, the Ole Miss Rebels managed to improve in our SEC Power Rankings. Former Tennessee football coach Lane Kiffin has put together one of the best offenses in the SEC, increasing its scoring each week while never failing to score 35 points and crossing the 40-point threshold the past two weeks. This guy is on a roll.
Combining that with other teams’ losing and the one team Ole Miss beat, the Kentucky Wildcats, finally winning a game, and it made sense for us to move them near the middle of the pack in this league. These guys are playing at a high level, and they are fun to watch. For now, Kiffin is winning the battle against Mike Leach for SEC supremacy, even if it’s early and both are 1-2.
There’s a case to make to put these guys even at No. 7, but if we had dropped Kentucky out of the top 10, we’d also have case to drop these guys. As a result, putting them in this spot is a solid compromise, as they have tons of defensive issues that outweigh just how fun their offense is to watch. At least Kiffin gave the Alabama Crimson Tide and his former boss Nick Saban a scare.
Anyway, moving forward, this team has a great chance to really make a run. Two of their next four games are against teams below them in these SEC Power Rankings, and the other two are against the next two teams just barely ahead of them, including a game this Saturday against the next team on our list.
