Tennessee football still in top half of SEC Power Rankings after Week 6 of 2020
Lost to Auburn Tigers 30-28
Sure, their only win is over a reeling Mississippi State Bulldogs team, but nobody can deny how improved the Arkansas Razorbacks are under head coach Sam Pittman. These guys gave the Georgia Bulldogs as much of a scare as Tennessee football did, and they were robbed of a chance to win the game after a terrible call last Saturday.
Auburn Tigers quarterback Bo Nix mishandled the snap on a spike and then spiked the ball behind him as he was trying to stop the clock so Auburn could kick a game-winning field goal. That should have been ruled a fumble, but it wasn’t. As a result, Gus Malzahn’s team barely escaped with an insanely lucky win, making the field goal.
As a result, the Hogs should be 2-1 and have led every team they have faced. Because of the way things have worked out, this team is in the top half of our SEC Power Rankings. Pittman has brought toughness to Fayetteville, Ark., and that combined with Kendal Briles’ offensive mined, Feleipe Franks at quarterback and Rakeem Boyd at running back makes for a dangerous offense.
If not for one bad call, these guys would be No. 6. Anyway, those things happen, and they’re about to get a few more chances to prove themselves. Up next for Arkansas is a home game against the Ole Miss Rebels in a battle between two first-year head coaches at their respective schools. This will be another great test for them.
