The Tennessee football Volunteers fell down the SEC after losing to the Kentucky Wildcats.

It took one blowout against Tennessee football to completely throw our SEC Power Rankings for a loop. Had the Vols won their game against the Kentucky Wildcats we would have known exactly where to put everybody, from No. 14 to No. 1.

With their loss, though, circular logic and head to head play goes out the window, messing up everything. After all, UT beat the South Carolina Gamecocks, who beat the Auburn Tigers, who beat Kentucky who just beat the Vols. How do we separate all of them?

Well, as we get set to bring you our SEC Power Rankings after a crazy weekend of upsets, that’s the task at hand. Tennessee football’s embarrassing loss at home changed everything for the middle of the pack teams.

Heck, even the Ole Miss Rebels, who are 1-3, throw this all for a loop, as their only win is over Kentucky. They lost to Arkansas, though, who lost to Auburn, and that circular logic again applies to the Vols. See what we’re saying? It was all perfectly organized until this game.

So how do we separate them? Well, record and schedule strength have to come into play. Margin of victory is also important. Then there’s recency, which will be major when dealing with this head to head issue.

Taking all of that into account, we have a decent understanding of where everybody belongs, but it’s all a complete cluster from No. 10 to No. 5. The only thing that’s clear is the bottom team and the top team, who are the only winless and undefeated teams left. To be fair, the bottom three is pretty clear in general now, as is the top four, even if the exact order is up for debate.

Where does everybody else fall? How confusing is it to break the teams down this week? Let’s go ahead and break all of that down here. This is a look at where Tennessee football fell to and where every other team stands in our SEC Power Rankings following Week 7 of the 2020 season.
