Defeated Auburn Tigers 30-22

This is why we had to drop the Auburn Tigers. The South Carolina Gamecocks have earned their way up our SEC Power Rankings. Will Muschamp may actually have a solid team right now, and the only thing working against them is a season-opening loss to Tennessee football that happened because of two key turnovers, one a pick-six and the other a muffed punt.

Losing in a tough fight to the Florida Gators the next week is nothing to be ashamed of, and after that, these guys rebounded to dominate the Vanderbilt Commodores. Against Auburn on Saturday, they never gave up despite trailing in the first half, and forcing three interceptions by Bo Nix shows that they truly look like a Muschamp defense now.

Meanwhile, Collin Hill is doing everything that’s asked of him at quarterback. He may be the guy, with Mike Bobo as offensive coordinator, that the Gamecocks needed. Shi Smith is a weapon, and the rushing attack is valuable. Simply put, this team has a lot of positives across the board with one of the best defensive minds as head coach.

How will this all work out? Well, they have another test with a trip to the LSU Tigers this week, and that’s a winnable game that they definitely would love to take advantage of. After that, they go on bye before a likely loss to the Texas A&M Aggies. However, if they can get to 3-3, the Ole Miss Rebels and Missouri Tigers give them an opportunity for five wins.
