Tennessee football collapses in SEC Power Rankings after Week 7 of 2020
Defeated Tennessee Volunteers 34-7
A resurgent team like the South Carolina Gamecocks, the Kentucky Wildcats are set to face USC at the end of the season. It’s perfect for both teams given how they started things off. All of a sudden, Mark Stoops’ team is looking like a dominant force that has the perfect game plan to beat mediocre to below average teams in the league.
Kentucky didn’t just beat Tennessee football. They dominated them. Their 17-7 lead was all about the four turnovers, including two pick-sixes, they forced on four straight drives. However, in the second half, they allowed only one first down until garbage time, and they scored every time they had the ball until the final drive, when they just ran out the clock.
Looking at all of that, this is a complete team. Terry Wilson has a go-to receiver in Josh Ali, and he leads a dominant rushing attack with three elite offensive linemen to bring balance to offense. Then the defense creates turnovers whenever it has to, and if it gets an early lead, it’s not relinquishing that lead. The loss to the Ole Miss Rebels seems a while ago now.
These guys may be a missed extra point away from 3-1. Up next, though, is a trip to the Missouri Tigers, and that should get them to 3-2. They then face the Georgia Bulldogs before their bye. After their bye, though, they’ve got the Vanderbilt Commodores. They need to win both for four wins, and South Carolina at the end gives them a chance at a .500 season.
