Tennessee football collapses in SEC Power Rankings after Week 7 of 2020
Did not play
Hey, there is some good news about the Vanderbilt Commodores having their game against the Missouri Tigers postponed over the weekend. They weren’t able to lose. That’s how bad it is for Derek Mason’s program. There’s just no way around the fact that the bottom has fallen out, and seven years into his tenure, the future doesn’t look much brighter.
After playing the Texas A&M Aggies close, this team lost back to back 41-7 games. Sure, playing A&M close looks better each week given what Jimbo Fisher’s team has done recently, but that was so long ago at this point that we have to ignore it. This team has no offense to speak of and can’t really hang with any team in the league when it’s playing its best.
Did the bye week do any favors? Well, we won’t know for a little while. Vandy has another bye this week, giving them plenty of time to rest and correct some things before they face the Ole Miss Rebels on Oct. 31. However, they look like they just aren’t good, not like they need to correct anything, so this may just make them rusty.
There’s a reason these guys are considered Tennessee football’s only remaining likely win the rest of the way. They are the only winless team in the league, and with no game this weekend, that will remain true at least until Halloween. Until that time, they belong down here, at the bottom of our SEC Power Rankings.
