Beating the Vanderbilt Commodores doesn’t do anything for the LSU Tigers’ standing in our SEC Power Rankings except keep them ahead of Vandy. After having their game against the Florida Gators postponed this past weekend, we are keeping them next to last in these rankings. Them being the only win for two other teams makes it even more clear they belong here.

The good news is that Ed Orgeron’s team effectively got a bye week, and that’s exactly what they needed. They have to figure out what’s going on with Bo Pelini’s defense, and a Saturday off was the perfect way to do that. After all, the offense is still no problem, but reports that Myles Brennan has a lower-body injury could change that a bit.

What’s clear, though, is that this team has been as inexplicable as Tennessee football. And it has played the easiest schedule through three games as well. They get a couple of chances to right the ship, though, against beatable teams coming up, and that could help them move up the rankings.

First, they host the South Carolina Gamecocks this weekend. That is a huge game for them, as USC would look like a quality win now. Then they visit a reeling Auburn Tigers team. That gives them a great chance to get to 3-2 heading into their bye week before they lose to the Alabama Crimson Tide, but it also gets them back on track to potentially have a solid season.
