Tennessee football: Vols continue slide in SEC Power Rankings after Week 8

Like the Vanderbilt Commodores, the Florida Gators have been able to enjoy two weeks off. After a heartbreaking loss to the Texas A&M Aggies, this may be just what they needed. Dan Mullen’s team is still in great position to contend for the SEC East. A two-week rest could give them a huge advantage if they made the most of their time off.
What did they need to do to make the most of that? Well, they needed to work on their defense. That unit struggled throughout the first three games of the season, including against the Ole Miss Rebels and South Carolina Gamecocks. Those issues just ended up proving costly against A&M, but that’s an SEC West loss, so it hasn’t ruined anything.
Florida still has a Heisman Trophy caliber candidate in quarterback Kyle Trask, and Mullen’s spread offense looks as unstoppable as ever. If that unit stays in rhythm after two weeks off while the defense corrects its mistakes, this team could be dangerous. Do we have any reason to believe that’s a possibility given what we saw early on?
Well, they start things off by facing a red-hot Missouri Tigers team on Halloween. With the Kentucky Wildcats, Arkansas Razorbacks, Vanderbilt Commodores and LSU Tigers along with Tennessee football on their slate at the end of the schedule, Mizzou is a great test for them. The only very tough game after that will be the next week against the next team on this list.
