Jeremy Pruitt speaking on the Tennessee Vols bye leads our Oct. 29 Volunteers news.

October is drawing to a close, the Tennessee Vols football team doesn’t have a game this weekend, and basketball is starting less than a month from now. Their should be more excitement among UT fans, but a 2-3 football start entering the bye has dampened that.

Issues related to the football program heading into the bye lead our morning update on Rocky Top. There was another press conference on Wednesday, and we’ll address the news that came out of that, as it’ll be the last one until Monday.

In addition to the press conference, we have a volleyball recap and a swimming and diving preview to bring you, so other things are still happening across campus. Let’s start, though, with the bye week coverage.

As the Tennessee Vols football program continues to work during the bye week, head coach Jeremy Pruitt addressed the media with a press conference Wednesday afternoon. Pruitt noted that Bryce Thompson has been playing through a torn pectoral muscle and that a new defensive line coach won’t be hired until the end of the year. Here’s a bit of what else he said.

"“Having a chance to go back and kind of get into a fall camp mode this week has been really good for a lot of players. Just working on fundamentals, really back to the basics.”"

Volleyball gets first win of the year – Barrett Walker, UT Daily Beacon

After losing two matches to the No. 3 ranked Kentucky Wildcats on the road back on Oct. 16 and Oct. 17, the Tennessee Vols volleyball program had its home opener in a midweek matchup against the Georgia Bulldogs Wednesday. UT won in four sets to move to 1-2 on the year. They will again face UGA, who is also 1-2, tonight at 7 p.m. ET.

"As a unit, they hit .267 percent while committing 18 errors. The Lady Vols were in the driver’s seat in the first two sets, besting the Bulldogs in almost every single category."

The Tennessee Vols women’s and men’s swimming and diving programs will begin their 2020-2021 seasons this week on Thursday and Friday respectively. Both will face the Kentucky Wildcats on the road.

"While the men compete on the road Friday, the Lady Vols return to the Allan Jones Aquatic Center for their second dual in as many days against Vanderbilt. All three dual meets this week will get underway at 4 p.m. ET."
