Defeated Mississippi State Bulldogs

One week after dominating Tennessee football, the Alabama Crimson Tide continued to prove they are far and away the best team in the SEC and belong at the top of our SEC Power Rankings. This time, it was against the reeling Mississippi State Bulldogs. Although Mike Leach’s team is struggling, Alabama is the first team this season to actually shut them out.

Despite the season-ending injury to Jaylen Waddle against the Vols, the Tide continued to look like they were getting better this week. That’s been a theme ever since they only beat the Missouri Tigers 38-19 in their opener. Their only struggle was against the Ole Miss Rebels, but Nick Saban did hint that Lane Kiffin stole Alabama’s signs in that game.

Take what you want with that, but if it’s the case, then Alabama looks even more impressive for winning that game, as it needed to drop 63 points and did so. Outside of that defensive lapse, however, there have been no issues with this team all year, and dominating the Georgia Bulldogs continues to be the most impressive performance by any team this year.

After a red-hot start, this team now gets a much-deserved bye. Then they get what should be an easy slate the rest of the way in the LSU Tigers, Kentucky Wildcats, Auburn Tigers and Arkansas Razorbacks. Simply put, it’ll be a major shock if this team doesn’t finish 10-0 en route to the SEC Championship game, and they are above everybody else in these rankings.
