Tennessee football falls during Week 9 bye in SEC Power Rankings
Lost to Auburn Tigers 48-11
Speaking of not knowing what to make of teams, how could the LSU Tigers dominate the South Carolina Gamecocks one week and then lose to the Auburn Tigers, who lost to South Carolina, the next week? Ed Orgeron’s team continues to be inconsistent and unpredictable, and there’s no sign of that getting better as the season progresses.
The Tigers are lucky they only dropped one spot in our SEC Power Rankings, but we couldn’t justify putting them behind the other two-win teams on here. On Saturday, the offense was the issues. Without Myles Brennan, there was a series of mistakes as Max Johnson and T.J. Finley called the shots under center.
Three turnovers set up three Auburn touchdowns, including a fumble return for a touchdown. In fact, if you take away the miscues, LSU may have been in this game late. They also had a missed field goal early on. This was a scoreless first quarter, after all. Still, it was inexcusable for the Tigers to have such issues two weeks after a bye and a week after a blowout win.
What does this all mean? Well, with another bye week, we’ll know soon enough. LSU has two weeks to get ready for the Alabama Crimson Tide, and beating them this year doesn’t look like a plausible outcome. They also still have to visit the Texas A&M Aggies and Florida Gators, so 4-6 isn’t just on the table but is actually likely at this point.
