A Rick Barnes interview leads our Tennessee Vols news for Wednesday, Nov. 4.

Welcome to a very tense morning. We though the presidential election alone would reach a fever pitch, but the method of counting the votes is making it even crazier. Still, life goes on in the world of the Tennessee Vols, and the program continued to make news in different ways Tuesday.

Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with Rick Barnes going on a podcast to talk about the state of the program right now with the start of basketball season less than a month away. It’s an intriguing conversation that he had.

We stay on the court by covering the the tragic death of a figure in the women’s basketball program. She was one of the early members of the program and helped spur its growth into a national powerhouse. Finally, we have a bit of weekly recognition for a women’s soccer player. So while there’s no Tennessee Vols football news, we have plenty of other things to cover.

Former Lady Vols assistant passes away – UTSports

Nancy Darsch, who was an assistant for the Tennessee Lady Vols basketball program under Pat Summitt from 1978 to 1985, passed away in Massachusetts Monday at age 68. News of her death came to light in the UT world on Tuesday.

"Darsch, a 1973 graduate of Springfield College, coached multiple sports at Longmeadow High School in Massachusetts until 1978, coming to Knoxville to pursue a master’s degree while serving as a teaching assistant in the UT physical education department.  She joined the Lady Vol staff as an associate coach during the 1978-79 season but quickly earned Summitt’s trust with her knowledge of the game."

Coming off their first road win over the season this past weekend, the awards continue to roll in for the Tennessee women’s soccer program. Sophomore midfielder Claudia Dipasupil was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week.

"After scoring a great goal from distance in a 2-1 win over Florida, Dipasupil’s set piece delivery created the winner as the Volunteers picked up a massive road victory."
