This was the first time Tennessee football had ever met the Arkansas Razorbacks on the road, and it remains one of only two times they squared off in Little Rock, where the Hogs often times have big meetings. However, on this day, it was time for a bit of payback.

In 1992, UT was 5-0, ranked No. 4 and set to host a 1-4 Arkansas team playing its first year in the SEC. They were certain to win. However, Arkansas, in the first matchup between the two schools in Knoxville, scored a late touchdown, recovered an onside kick and then kicked a game-winning field goal to win 25-24.

That sparked a three-game losing streak that got Johnny Majors fired, ruined the Vols SEC East title hopes and made Phillip Fulmer full-time head coach. Heading into this game, Arkansas had a new head coach in Danny Ford and actually looked pretty dangerous at 4-1, as they had beaten three ranked teams in Georgia, the Alabama Crimson Tide and the South Carolina Gamecocks.

UT was also 4-1 and ranked No. 11. This was no sure win. Heath Shuler, however, erased any doubt. Shuler completed 19 of 26 passes for 307 yards and two touchdowns, and he ran for another touchdown. It was one of the best games he had that year, and the Vols pulled away 28-14. That got them back into the top 10 the next week.
