Tennessee football: Five takeaways from Vols’ 24-13 loss to Arkansas Razorbacks
Here’s what we learned from the Tennessee football Volunteers’ loss to the Razorbacks.
A 13-0 lead at halftime came apart for Tennessee football in the third quarter, as the Arkansas Razorbacks scored 24 straight points and held on for a 24-13 win. This was another collapse for Jeremy Pruitt’s team, and it came off a bye week.
UT quarterback Jarrett Guarantano suffered a head injury on the Vols’ first drive of the second half and was taken out of the game. Brian Maurer and Harrison Bailey both played after that, but neither was able to generate any points.
In the first half, the Vols took a 3-0 lead on their opening drive. They then got the ball back and went up 10-0 on a 16-play 70-yard drive. Arkansas then drove deep into the red zone but missed a chip shot field goal, and Tennessee football had another field goal drive to take that 13-0 lead.
However, the Hogs got the ball on the opening drive in the second half and mounted a 17-play 75-yard touchdown drive. They then forced two three-and-outs and had three-play and two-play scoring drives to go up 21-13. After getting another stop, they got into field goal range off a pass interference to make it 24-13.
With the win, Arkansas improves to 3-3 under first-year head coach Sam Pittman. Rocky Top, meanwhile, falls to 2-4 and is now on a four-game losing streak with pressure continuing to build on Pruitt. It’s hard to see where he goes from here given the fact that the Vanderbilt Commodores are likely the only win left on his schedule.
Up next for the Hogs is a visit to the Florida Gators, who are looking unbeatable. Tennessee football, meanwhile, has to host the Texas A&M Aggies, who also look unbeatable. Before we get to that point, though, let’s look back on this game. Here are five things we learned about this loss for the Vols.
