1. Atrocious pass defense continues

A bye week didn’t do anything for Tennessee football. Once again, the Vols pass defense was horrendous, particularly in the second half. That was all it took for the Arkansas Razorbacks to get red-hot. UT is the only team all year the Hogs beat without needing a defensive touchdown, and that’s because of what they did through the air.

Feleipe Franks was wearing a different uniform, but he completed 18-of-24 passes for 215 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. All of his touchdowns came in the third quarter, as he had strikes to Mike Woods, Blake Kern and Treylon Burks. Woods had a 56 yards reception and a one-yard touchdown, and Burks had a 59 yard touchdown. Kern had a six-yard touchdown.

Kendal Briles also had his way with Derrick Ansley during that third quarter. He kept the UT defense on hits heels, and there was nothing the Vols could do about it. What’s more concerning for Rocky Top is the fact that they weren’t just torched on the quick slants, although the quick slants were the bread and butter of what happened to them.

The Vols also got beat on the outside, which explains why Burks had such a huge score. Sure, Alontae Taylor being hurt was an issue, but this was a collective failure. Don’t forget that the Hogs drove into field goal range in the first half on these slants but just had a bad miss. Right now, anybody can throw on UT, and Arkansas proved that once again.
