Lost to Florida Gators 44-28

We had moved the Georgia Bulldogs below the Florida Gators just recently in our SEC Power Rankings, as they seemed to be slipping a bit. This team didn’t even look great against the Arkansas Razorbacks or Tennessee football, but it had such a strong second half that we thought it was somewhat of a fluke.

However, the Dawgs looked hideous in their win over the Kentucky Wildcats, and that was sandwiched in between a blowout loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide and now a decisive loss to the Florida Gators. Kirby Smart is now feeling some pressure, and hopes for an appearance in the College Football Playoff with the most talented UGA team in a long time have been dashed.

Quarterback is a clear issue for this team. Both Stetson Bennett and D’Wan Mathis were horrendous against the Gators, combining to complete nine of 29 passes for just 112 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. Even with a solid defense and an elite running game, nobody could have those numbers and beat a team like Florida.

Can UGA correct those issues? We’ll find out this week Up next for them is a trip to the Missouri Tigers. They then have to host the Mississippi State Bulldogs, visit the South Carolina Gamecocks and host the Vanderbilt Commodores. As a result, they’re almost certain to finish 8-2, but this loss still had to sting. The CFP, SEC Championship and SEC East are likely all gone.
