Lost to Texas A&M Aggies 48-3

We could have put Tennessee football here, and they did beat the South Carolina Gamecocks in the opener. However, South Carolina does still have that win over the Auburn Tigers since then, and they did also beat the Vanderbilt Commodores on the same weekend UT started its four-game losing streak. As a result, this team has two wins since the Vols’ last win.

Taking that into account, Will Muschamp’s team gets to be one spot ahead of the Vols in our SEC Power Rankings. Don’t read too much into this, though. The bottom tier of this league is a disaster, and USC belongs there with its 2-4 record. This was an embarrassing, hideous loss to the Texas A&M Aggies coming off a bye. These guys should have shown more life.

You have to think Muschamp’s time in Columbia, S.C. is running thin. Sure, this is a unique season, but he’s still the coach who pulls off an upset here or there and gets blown out by everybody else. In fact, he’s running a similar track record to what Jeremy Pruitt has been running with the Vols, only his record goes much further back.

There is a chance for a bit of a turnaround now, though. Up next for them is a trip to the Ole Miss Rebels, and then they host the Missouri Tigers. While the Georgia Bulldogs are on the slate, the Kentucky Wildcats are also on there at the end of the year. As a result, 4-6 could be on the table, and that may be enough to save Muschamp. However, he has to prove himself.
