Did Not Play

We could have put the Kentucky Wildcats below the LSU Tigers in our SEC Power Rankings, but with neither team playing this past week, it made sense to keep them in the same spots. Kentucky would probably really like those games against the Ole Miss Rebels and Missouri Tigers back, although their win over Tennessee football doesn’t look as impressive now.

At this point, these guys have only beaten the fourth worst and second worst teams in the league. That’s not much to celebrate, but another reason its above LSU is that the Tigers have beaten the fourth worst and the worst teams in the league. As a result, Kentucky’s quality of victory is slightly higher, and that gets them even more in the middle of the pack.

This team did fight hard in its 14-3 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs, but UGA’s play this past week even makes that look unimpressive. What’s clear, though, is that these guys know how to force turnovers and play tough defense. Their offense will get better against teams not as talented as the Dawgs down the stretch.

Well, they have a small chance to finish strong down the stretch as well. Up next is a home game against the Vanderbilt Commodores. They also host the South Carolina Gamecocks at the end of the year. In between, though, they have to visit the Alabama Crimson Tide and Florida Gators, so 4-6 still looks like the best-case scenario.
